One other thing I look at when I go into a new coffee house is what equipment they have. In general, all of the good coffee houses use La Marzocco espresso machines. If they also have a La Marzocco Swift grinder, then there is an excellent chance they have very good drinks.

Where do *I* go for a cup? My kitchen. I make a decent cappuccino, but I don't have the chops of 99% of the folks who are members in the Barista's Guild.

Of course I'd *love* to find a local coffee house that consistently delivers the goods...

The best coffee experience I've had in a Vermont cafe / coffee house / espresso bar has been at the Old Brick Cafe in Williston. I suspect that's because Don Holly (our quality guru at Green Mountain Coffee Roasters, and author of the Specialty Coffee Association's textbook on espresso preparation) has been tutoring them.

For anyone who, like me, didn't know what ristretto and lungo are, this may be helpful; http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Espresso#Variations

Remember, I'm even more of a newbie to the area as you, deCadmus. I was just curious where you went for your favourite cup.

Locally?

To be honest, I have yet to find a single coffee house in Vermont that lives up to my hopes and aspirations. It's disappointing, really... and disheartening.

My search continues... got someplace I should try?

Just out of curiosity, deCadmus, where do you go locally that you get (and give) this kind of treatment?
