Nicely done, Derek!

Careful, now. Every step down the path to coffee bliss leads not only to a hightened sense of giddiness, but an increasingly ethereal sense of one's wallet.

Actually, the entire essay started percolating (heh, sorry) after I observed that a lot of my coffee drinking friends kept their beans in the freezer. Personally, I can tell the difference in taste, and I just hate that freezerburned aftertaste (and I swear I can taste the freezer even if it was in a sealed container). If you think it's fine, rock on!

And dude! You know the old vivid studios? You are oldschool.

Maybe I'm a rebel? Maybe I'm one with no taste or class? Or maybe there is just something plain wrong with me, but I stopped refrigerating my coffee altogether a few years ago.

Yes I go through my coffee quickly, but there is something I like about the softness of the flavour that coffee takes on when it's been sitting at room temp for a while (sealed of course).

Derek -

If the container the coffee was stored in was sealed less than perfectly - I agree... off aromas and flavors are easily discerned.

I rarely store coffee in the freezer myself ... between roasting my own at home, and having a few thousand pounds of just-roasted stuff across the street at work I have a ready supply of fresh beans. When I *do* freeze coffee I add an extra layer of protection to that heat-sealed high-tech packaging: a simple zippy bag.

As for Vivid - I was a fan... I had more than a few conversations with Nathan and Drue and others in the Good Years. ;) I happened to stumble upon www.vividstudios.org the other day - I'm immensely glad somebody put together that particular little time capsule.

-deCadmus
